Cycling Day 2 Rocky Lake (Wasilla) - Talkeetna 3:23 PM

Day 2 started with the smell of the fresh morning. The sun reflecting off the lake greeted us as we prepared our journey to Talkeetna. One amazing thing we realised is that the people here are all nice. We were newbies at fishing and this couple at our campground taught us how to cast and even gave us his tackle box to assist us in our adventures.

We began the day in high spirits as it was warm and the sun was shining. The ride was nice as we cycled through Parks Highway. The ride was smooth with exception of 1 flat and a police stop. However my knee was totally giving way. And i struggled for much of the ride, but with the encouragement of the team and my determination, I was committed in reaching Talkeetna before resting my busted knee that made me cycling with one leg for nearly 10km. We finally reached Talkeetna after 6 hrs of cycling 120km. To our surprise, we were just in time for the Annual Moose Dropping Festival. The highlight of the festival was dropping moose dropping from a height of 50m, and plenty of stalls selling Alaskan goodies. The festive mood was great and we met people who gave us free drinks!

We camped at Talkeetna Boat Launch Campground and like for much of our expedition, will be embracing the true Alaskan adventure of the outdoors and living up to the name of a Zero Limits Expedition. We also tried a hand at fishing, but unfortunately we failed terribly, with Bryant breaking the line when he fished a "stickfish".

The day ended with us having a nice meal of Kat's cooking and us hanging out at the campground arming ourselves up to the fireplace as we looked forward to our 3rd day of our expedition.

Zero Limits 08

The Zero Limits Expedition series was initiated by the SMU Office of Student Life. With the aim of providing students the opportunity to grow through adventure learning, this series challenges one to explore, experience and truly exemplify the human spirit. Alaska is the third installment of this series after successful expeditions in Nepal(2005) and France(2006).

About Alaska
Having done Asia(Nepal'05) and Europe(France'06), North America was the continent of choice. Known for its vast wilderness, picturesque scenery, mountain ranges and teeming wildlife, Alaska is the epitome of the Great American Wilderness.

About Team Zero Limits 08.
As a team, we seek to build the fighting spirit that justifies this expedition. 7 hours of cycling a day for 25 days will push our body and spirit to its very limit. It is up to our individual tenacity to keep striving to attain the success we so desire. When we started this mission, we were not cyclist, yet alone sportsmen. But this battle is won in our hearts and minds; the body only serves as a medium. We believe that with an undying spirit and dedicated efforts, we can achieve anything we set our hearts to. This expedition provides the truest test of that.
