Riding Day 9 Harding Lake to Clearwater Lake (Delta Junction) 5:38 PM

Its, 10 pm, we finished the stage 2.5 hrs ago. Dinner is almost ready. I feel spent. Bryant is lying asleep in the van. Alaska has thrown us so much beauty, coupled with a myriad of challenges and I think we are finally beginning to feel the strain.
Today’s ride was arduous. Kat terms it ‘drag ass’. My Scott Speedster felt as heavy as my mountain bike. The terrain was bad, sky completely gloomy with nothing pretty in view. The road today was the worst yet. The first 60 km saw us fight through a road that I think had not been resurfaced in 20 years. It was not loose gravel. It was just completely warn out and energy sucking. I ended the ride having cleared 5 bottles.
Another section saw us ride through road works. That is, we road on dirt for a good 10km. That was right after we got hit by two bouts of rain, leaving us wet and cold as we pushed on. So here we are in Delta Junction, camping at Clearwater Lake Recreation Site, 5 hours and 3 punctures later, waiting for dinner.
On a more positive note, my lame jokes have received better reception. The rain was coming when Bryant swerved out in front of me to avoid a rock in our path. He yelled ‘rock’ to warn me. After passing it I said to him,
‘Did you smell that?’
‘Smell what, the rain?’
‘No. Did you smell what the rock was cooking?’
He laughed his ass off and rated it 9/10
Goodnight.

Zero Limits 08

The Zero Limits Expedition series was initiated by the SMU Office of Student Life. With the aim of providing students the opportunity to grow through adventure learning, this series challenges one to explore, experience and truly exemplify the human spirit. Alaska is the third installment of this series after successful expeditions in Nepal(2005) and France(2006).

About Alaska
Having done Asia(Nepal'05) and Europe(France'06), North America was the continent of choice. Known for its vast wilderness, picturesque scenery, mountain ranges and teeming wildlife, Alaska is the epitome of the Great American Wilderness.

About Team Zero Limits 08.
As a team, we seek to build the fighting spirit that justifies this expedition. 7 hours of cycling a day for 25 days will push our body and spirit to its very limit. It is up to our individual tenacity to keep striving to attain the success we so desire. When we started this mission, we were not cyclist, yet alone sportsmen. But this battle is won in our hearts and minds; the body only serves as a medium. We believe that with an undying spirit and dedicated efforts, we can achieve anything we set our hearts to. This expedition provides the truest test of that.
